How this is measured
- Every price is the regular shelf price read from the retailer's own public product listing on the date above. A shop running a short promotion is not recorded as having cut its price.
- The basket is twelve fixed staples at fixed pack sizes. Comparing prices only means something when the packs match, so an item a shop does not stock in that size is left blank rather than substituted.
- A basket total is shown only where all twelve items were found. A partial basket is a different basket and is not comparable with a full one.
- Prices exclude delivery charges and minimum-order requirements, which differ between retailers and are not measured here.
This index is published for information. It is not advice about where to shop, and it names no cheapest retailer — delivery, minimum orders and availability all affect what a household actually pays.
